Employment

Description
The FIELD model incorporates employment estimates transferred from Excel spreadsheets. Employment
estimates and projections for 2000, 2015, and 2025 were obtained through the "Hillsborough County Estimates and Projections" report from the
Hillsborough County City-County Planning Commission (April, 2004).
Estimates and projections for the intervening years were interpolated
in a manner similar to the methodology used for the population
projections (see Population under Demand Base section).
The FIELD model uses the cumulative annual differences between the projected employment for the year 2027 and the 2007 employment estimates to determine the employment growth that the future land use plan must accommodate. The employment module uses annual emp (employment)
change to calculate the annual employment change for each of the jurisdictions.
The initial employment variable represents the number of people employed in each of the jurisdictions in
2007 (base year for the model). The annual emp (employment) change variable is computed for each jurisdiction by subtracting the
employment projected for the year 2027 from the employment in 2006 and then dividing by
the number of years (20). This number is then added to the initial employment (for the year 2007) to obtain population projections for each year the
simulation is run using the level, employment. Auxiliary, cumulative
employment change stores the cumulative employment change for all the
jurisdictions. The table in the employment projection module shows the initial employment (2007), annual change, employment (for the year 2007) and the
cumulative change for each of the jurisdictions.
The employment projections represented in the table above can be broken down by sectors using the drop down menu shown above the table.
The graph below shows the cumulative employment change from the year 2007 to 2027.
The cumulative employment change is shown numerically in the box above the graph. The
jurisdiction for the graph can be selected from the drop-down menu on the
top left side of the graph.
